Since about an hour into the iPhone Duo pre-order window, delivery estimates for the foldable phone have been stuck at the back end of January – where they still remain.
Apple is aiming to ramp up production on the iPhone Duo to meet the burgeoning demand for the two-grand foldable phone. However, it hasn’t made public statements on when it expects the phone to be readily available without delay.
Now Apple CEO John Ternus has weighed-in whether the company will be able to ensure supply meets the demand for the device, which has performed well among reviewers early on. Speaking to Reuters following Apple’s most recent earnings call, Ternus said:
“Duo is constrained as of today,” the new Apple boss said. “The ramp is going well, and we’re working hard to get it to as many customers as quickly as possible, but at this point, we’re not able to predict when supply and demand will be in balance.”
So your guess is as good as his, apparently.
One thing that could prevent sustained demand for the phone is early reports of screens cracking, with the company acknowledging it has replaced a small number of affected devices.
Ternus reaffirmed that was only “a very small percentage” of iPhone Duo units that have been returned. Apple has recaptured many of the phones with the flaw and will likely tweak the production to guard against future instances.
