These neat milk carton speakers from CMF by Nothing are endearing, affordable and stand out from the crowd

CMF, the budget side-brand of Nothing, has announced its first Bluetooth speakers with a unique milk carton-esque design and – for once – we aren’t up in arms about pricing.

The boxy CMF Speaker S ($59/£49) and CMF Speaker M ($109/£99) are available to buy now and offer an intriguing modular design language with swappable panels and control knobs that can even be 3D printed and customised.

The Speaker S is the smaller variation that looks like your standard pint of milk with a hole that can be used to attach to a strap or carabiner, while the M is twice the size with a pair of speakers and looks like your standard 2-pinter. You can get either of them in white, dark grey, orange, and turquoise.

The control knobs encourage playback without using your phone as you can adjust playback, track navigation and more, while there’s dedicated buttons on the rear for power, Bluetooth (6.0) and Auracast with support for Google Fast Pair. There’s also a USB power on the back for both charging and for lossless playback.

Speakers can be pared for stereo sound and Party Mode, while there’s an app for customising EQ.

On the inside, the smaller Speaker S has a 45mm full-range driver with adaptive tuning for a 10W output, while there are a pair of passive radiators to help with the low end sounds. The speaker S offers an 18-hour battery life from a single charge.

The Speaker M has a pair of drivers, including a 70mm woofer with a 16mm tweeter and 35W of output in total. And a wider soundstage than the Speaker S. Battery life is up to 18 hours too.
