iPhone Duo offers the best use yet for Siri Shortcuts – how will you customise it?

Early adopters are still getting to grips with the iPhone Dup foldable phone and finding new and interesting ways to unlock the potential of the form factor. However, this one is particularly good.

MacRumors writer Tim Hardwick has a post up explaining how the Siri Shortcuts app can be used to establish an Open or Closed parameter that performs a specific action. This means you can tell the phone to open a specific application whenever you open the phone. So, if your primary use for opening the phone is to launch Maps, Music, Netflix, Instagram, Kindle, Apple News, FaceTime or anything else, you can customise it here.

As Tim explains, the process is pretty simple. You can open the Shortcuts app, and hit the ‘+’ icon. From there, you can hit Edit. There you’ll be able to search for an Open App and then just choose from the list. The same applies when you select Closed as the trigger. And it’s not just app launches that are possible.

You can select different kinds of automations like turning on the Do Not Disturb mode when you shut the lid. This could be great for staying clear of distractions when you make the conscious decisions to close the lid and stop scrolling.

It’ll be really interesting to see how app developers use the iPhone Duo‘s form factor to bring new life to the way we interact with apps and services. However, there’s still plenty to discover from Apple’s built in tools too.
