Apple’s key iOS 27 changes were just laid bare – here’s what’s in store

Apple is planning to use iOS 27 “upgrade” the iPhone camera experience by giving users more control over the easily accessible controls, according to a new report.

Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman’s sources say the revamped interface in iOS 27 will treat features like “widgets” and enable users to choose where to place controls like the flash, exposure settings, timer, and image resolution.

Keeping preferred controls at the top of the camera interface could mean less delving within menus to find the most-used settings. Apple already redesigned the camera interface in iOS 26, but that did make some elements a little harder to locate at times.

The changes will also include a new Start page for the Safari browser that’ll make it easier to access “favourites, bookmarks, a reading list of saved articles, and browsing history,” according to Gurman’s people familiar with the matter.

Changes are also coming to the Weather app in iOS 27, Gurman’s sources report. The home page will include a Conditions section offering greater insight into metrics like rain and wind. Right now you have to browse to the individual city’s page to see that data.

Apple is also planning a new keyboard animation where the keys gracefully slide up when summoned. I’d settle for the virtual keyboard that wasn’t as prone to an ungodly amount of typos. The standalone search button in most stock apps will also be reabsorbed into the navigation bar, according to Gurman. That’ll mean changes to Music, Podcasts, News and other key apps across the operating system.

Overall, it’s designed to “streamline the Liquid Glass design language”, according to the report from Gurman.
