Audio manufacturer Pioneer has made its new Sphera after-market CarPlay receiver available to buy, marking the first time drivers have been able to add Dolby Atmos Spatial Audio to an existing vehicle that didn’t support it off the lot.
The Sphera receiver, which was announced at CES 2026 in January, is now available to purchase for a whopping $1,300. However, if you’re looking for that fully immersive Apple Music experience while the highway’s jammed with broken heroes on a last chance power drive, without buying a new car, this is your jam. It works with existing speakers and is compatible with millions of existing cars, Pioneer says.
“To date, in-vehicle Dolby Atmos has been available only in models equipped with Dolby Atmos-enabled sound systems,” Pioneer said in January.
“With SPHERA, Pioneer expands access to Dolby Atmos through an aftermarket solution that can be installed in millions of existing vehicles, delivering an immersive sound experience leveraging speakers already in the vehicle.”
The company says the model, which has a 10.1-inch tablet display with HD resolution, works via Pioneer’s Pure Autotuning technology to leverage both front and rear speakers.
Pioneer explains: “Vehicle cabins vary widely in size, shape, and materials, and aftermarket upgrades can further influence acoustical variables. To account for and adapt to these differences, PURE Autotuning technology precisely adjusts time alignment, frequency response, and channel levels to optimise performance and place the listener at the acoustical centre position. This level of accuracy is essential for delivering a Dolby Atmos experience that is true to the creative intent of musicians and content creators.”
