Activo Scoop wired earbuds bring Astell&Kern tech for under £100

Grabing Astell&Kern-powered audio products for under £100 would, historically, only be possible if they’d ‘fallen off the back of a lorry’ and needed to be shifted quick smart out of a suitcase. However, we can assure you the new near wired earbuds released under A&K sub-brand Activo, are indeed kosher and on the up-and-up.

The new Activo Scoop in-ear-monitors have arrived for just £99 in the UK. The “accessible digital audio brand powered by Astell&Kern technology” has launched the Scoop IEMs to give listeners a taste of the good life for a much more affordable price.

The wired earphones arrive as a flexible option thanks to the detachable connections that enable USB-C, 3.5mm and balanced 4.4mm connections. The latter makes the Activo Scoop compatible with dedicated digital audio players that can provide improved channel separation and reduced noise.

The sub-£100 category isn’t exactly familiar with some of the tech inside these wired buds. There’s three dynamic drivers (1x 8mm and 2 x 6mm), along with two balanced armature drivers. The manufacturer says they combine to deliver “a natural sound signature that spans from a rich, full-bodied low end to crisp and articulate highs. A proprietary acoustic port structure unifies the five drivers, with an integrated cable terminal circuit ensuring a clean, stable signal.”

There’s also a nicely distinct design that resembles the “polished form of a pebble”. It’s not just for show, it’s designed to aid a comfortable fit. There’s also a seven-core cable with silver played copper and oxygen-free copper wiring. That cable is fully removable, so if it conks out there’s no need to replace the buds entirely.

There’s no charging case because there’s blissfully no-need to charge wired earbuds, but you do get a travel pouch. You can grab them now for £99 from Amazon or directly from Activo UK.
